If you don't join you won't get much work after it is over. Look at the last big strike and how many of the ones who worked don't really get asked to work. I'd think you'd have better connections being on the good side of SAG. I know you would really like this side of your career to develop. Good luck with which ever side you take.
Never having been forced to be in a union, I am against them. So if you aren't forced to BE in one, don't. But I guess you have to take the possibility of never getting work without being in one into account.
